SAS Data Integration Studio Training
Think-a-ma-Bob Bronze Sculpture
This is the second SAS related travel that I got scheduled for in last six months and the best part being it is located at World Headquarters of SAS - Cary North Carolina! It is during week of Valentines 2014 and that makes it even more special as the more I get to work with SAS, the more I am falling in love with it!!
I flew from South Florida to Raleigh airport via Southwest's quick 130 minutes flight. I am staying for an entire week at Embassy Suites off Harrison Boulevard that has free shuttles scheduled not only from Airport but also back and forth to SAS campus during AM as well as PM hours.

Day One - February 10:
Quartz Display in Hallway
My first day at this training has been simply exhilarating. SAS provides healthy breakfast - cereals, muffins, fresh fruit, tea, coffee, juice - in the morning and the classes start promptly at 9 am. Building F is beautifully decorated with luring sculptures throughout lobby and hallway. The training room is super spacious laboratory equipped with over two dozen machines, high definition projector and top notch instructor Mr. Robert Ligtenberg. We will be covering two 350 pages books that will teach all about Data Integration Studio and little bit about SAS Management Console.
- Spinach Salad
- Sesame Grilled Chicken
- Brown Rice Stir Fried Vegetables
- Cheddar Beer Muffins
- Apple Dumpling
This two-story facility has state-of-the-art cafeteria where lunch is served to you. Who wouldn't like all this pampering?! Afternoon snacks included nuts, chips and more drinks. By the way, all this is unlimited and you could pack your desert back home if you prefer.
Healthy Snacks, Healthy Programming
Day Two - February 11:
Volume 1 & 2 Books
I couldn't wait to get back to class the next day. The instructor is very meticulous and methodical, which makes it so convenient to complete all the exercises and self-study on time everyday. All set for diving into more Data Integration Studio Configuration and Metadata creation details.

P.S. By the way, if you have allergies or specific dietary constraints, SAS co-ordinators will consider your requests early morning for same-day lunch. Aren't they the best hosts?
Day Three - February 12:
The classes started off on time early in the morning, but due to inclement weather conditions, we were asked to wrap afternoon session early.

Day Four - February 13:
SAS co-ordinators are so good and proactive at tackling emergency situations with almost minimum to zero loss of productivity that they got every student set up with online Webex sessions equipped with audio background so that the class could move with curriculum on even such a snowy day. So here I am sitting in my office den enjoying complimentary glass of wine and finishing the last 30% of this training. It has been so much of Metadata, Extract, Transformation, Loading, Job Creation, Data Quality, Data Mapping and Propagation, Dimensions so far!

Presenting Appreciation Token
I really can't eat or drink anymore now. Feels like staying in the best Bed & Breakfast! Now that we had an extra dose of Deploying and Scheduling Jobs, Handling multiples Databases, Generating Precode & Postcode, Comparison of Tables for missing records, appends, inserts, most of us were wearing DI Studio expert hats and although just little bit happy to accept our Certificate of Completion still in mode of figuring out how we will implement solutions catered to our own customized projects. Super interesting concepts to apply when I get back to my office!!
Hi Dhanashree, nice documentation of your trip and training. This SAS DI class was very comprehensive and powerful. Best of luck as you deploy your new skills to your projects. Kirk
